There’s a Problem…

Living in today’s complex society presents daunting challenges for all of us — challenges like widespread violence in our schools and communities, relationship issues in our families, interpersonal conflicts in our workplaces, and unprecedented stress levels in our homes.

Indeed, real people — whether youth, adults, parents, couples, employees, employers, or service providers — are facing real problems.

These problems require real solutions so that they don’t undermine our real purpose.

That purpose isn’t just living in today’s complex society. It is living well.

That purpose isn’t just living in today’s complex society.

It is living well.

There’s a Solution…

Living well. How does one begin to do this?

The first step is recognizing that most of the obstacles impeding health and productive functioning are preventable. This is precisely where the Office of Prevention Services & Research (OPSR) comes in, for our focus is prevention and wellness; keeping new problems from arising, preventing present problems from worsening, and improving the overall quality of life.

Prevention and wellness activities are based on the simple premise that we can proactively identify and reduce factors that increase the risks of problems occurring, and likewise identify and increase factors that protect people from threats to their behavioral health.

In undertaking such activities, we build individual’s capacity to realize their best potential, and to function effectively across the life cycle and in all the settings in which they interact.
