Certification Manual
Training and Consultation Services is the UBHC arm of providing both
training and consultation to mental health and human services, agencies,
systems and staff. TCS consists of both UBHCs Training and Consultation
Resources (TCR) and Technical Assistance Center (TAC). TCR also designs
and markets training by UBHC professionals, including Behavioral Research
and Training Institute faculty, as well as coordinates training contracts
with non-UBHC professionals to organizations in the community. The Clinician
Administrator oversees both programs, and there is a Program Coordinator
taking the lead role for each program. Usual office hours are 8:30 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, services are scheduled
to accommodate additional needs of its constituents.
Training and consultation are provided at the spacious and comfortable
facility located at 151 Centennial Ave in Piscataway, at central locations
throughout the state, or on-site at the clients own offices. Current
satellite locations located in Northern, Central and Southern regions
of the state have video-conferencing capabilities and are being expanded
to include more buildings state-wide. On-line training through CDs and
website training capacities are available and will be expanded.
Our initiative is not only to provide active training in which participants
utilize what they learn in-vivo, but also to ensure that there is application
of learned material at the provider sites where our participants are
employed. To accomplish this, we will analyze evaluation data that in
itself will be modified as we progress.
Training & Consultation Resources (TCR)
Training and Consultation Resources coordinates, monitors, supports,
delivers and evaluates professional educational programs to maintain
and enhance UBHC staff competency. TCR is also a provider for professional
contact hours for psychologists, social workers, nurses, and those obtaining
credits for Certification in Addictions. Inquiries should be addressed
to Training and Consultation Resources, 151 Centennial Avenue, Piscataway,
NJ 08854 or call 732-235-9282.
Ongoing major topics include clinical and non-clinial subjects, UBHC-wide
orientation, crisis prevention, courses on Microsoft Office suite for
staff use at their clinical work-stations. Annual surveys and staff
requests assist TCR with selection of training programs.

The Technical Assistance Center provides training and consultation
to mental health and human services, agencies, systems, and staff. TAC
provides services throughout New Jersey and the United States.

Division of Mental Health Services, and most project areas are determined
in consultation with that agency. Agencies may contact the Division
of Mental Health Services or the Technical Assistance Center directly
to clarify eligibility for services. Services may also be provided on
a fee-for services basis through direct contact with the Technical Assistance
Center Office either in writing or by phone at 732-235-9290.
Ongoing major projects include: emergency psychiatric screener certification
training and nursing home staff training; case management and partial
hospitalization training and consultation; acute-care system consultation;
MICA training; and training on a range of related topics, such as multi-cultural
issues, burnout and quality improvement. Consultation is usually provided
on-site. Training can be provided on-site, at a regional location, or
at the Technical Assistance Center's own facility. An active training
model is employed that emphasizes experiential learning. Trainings and
consultants employed by the Technical Assistance Center have significant
clinical experience and expertise in their subject areas.
