CARRI – Home Based Services for Middlesex
and Somerset County Families Referred by the Division of
Youth and Family Services
Eligibility
- Must be referred by Middlesex or Somerset County DYFS
- Families with young children who would benefit from
parenting education and supportive counseling
- Must be parent or guardian of at least one child age
0-4 at time of referral
Services Provided
- Parenting education and developmental guidance
- Home visits
- Supportive Counseling
- Case Management to insure access to needed medical,
social and mental health services

Youth Intensive Intervention Program (YIIP)
- providing
Functional Family Therapy Services
An intensive home and community based program using the
evidence based treatment model Functional Family Therapy
(FFT) with youth ages 11 to 18 years who present with a
wide range of problems including oppositional behaviors,
at risk behaviors such as truancy and substance use, impulsive
and aggressive behaviors, and related mental health disorders.
Functional Family Therapy is a well documented and highly
successful family intervention that assists families in
such areas as anger management, substance abuse, communication
patterns, social problem solving, and conflict resolution.
Funded by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families
(DCF) YIIP clinicians are fully trained in the provision
of FFT.
Eligibility Criteria
- Families must reside in Middlesex County, Franklin Township
in Somerset County or Plainfield in Union County
- The youth must be 11 to 18 years old and meet the behavioral
criteria
- Parents/guardians must participate in the FFT clinical
service
- FFT clinical service can not be combined with other
DCF authorized services
- Referrals are received directly by the YIIP program
and then must be authorized through the NJ Department
of Children and Families Contract System Administrator.
Functional Family Therapy
- Can be provided in the home, at community locations,
and at UBHC
- Is a structured intervention that moves through the
well defined phases of Engagement and Motivation, Behavior
Change, and Generalization
- Is constantly evaluated to insure fidelity to the model
and to adapt to the changing needs of families
