| Living with dementia is not easy.
We understand what caregivers are going through, we’ve been
helping families since 1983 and were the first specialized treatment
center in New Jersey for individuals with memory impairment. Today,
we continue to be the leaders in the field and offer a comprehensive
program that has proven to be beneficial to participants.
Our program offers structured, therapeutic activities designed
to stimulate each individual’s cognitive abilities. For the
patient, being with a group of people who are experiencing similar
difficulties can help prevent feelings of isolation. Participation
in the Day Program may also lessen some of the behavior problems
that often accompany dementia.
A typical day at the program may include
- Reality Orientation
- Current Events
- Reading and Discussion Groups
- Art Projects
- Cognitive Based Puzzles/Activities
- Recreational Games
- Exercise and Movement
- Nutritious Meals and Snacks
- Seasonal Celebrations
- Music Therapy
- Intergenerational Programming Education
- Small Support Groups and Leisure
- Cooking and Sensory Group
- Gardening
Benefits for Caregivers
While a loved one is participating in the COPSA Day Program, the
caregiver can attend to personal business or take some time to relax
and unwind. Family members are able to discuss their special concerns
with a trained staff member who can offer an objective assessment
of the client’s needs. Case mangers can also help caregivers
develop strategies maximize their loved ones’ functioning
and manage behavioral problems. The information and emotional support
helps to ease the difficult task of caring for a loved one with
dementia. |
