Geriatric Outpatient Services
University Behavioral HealthCares Geriatric Outpatient
Mental Health Services have been developed to provide barrier-free
mental health care for older adults residing in the community.
In conjunction with UBHCs Community Outreach Program, the
geropsychologists, geriatric psychiatrists, counselors, and social
workers of the Geriatric Outpatient Services program work
together to provide accessible, non-threatening mental health
care to elderly adults with late onset mental illness, lifelong
personality disorders, normative life transition problems, mood
or affective disorders, and cognitive impairment. Contemporary
psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological approaches are offered
by UBHCs multidisciplinary team of professionals, which
includes Board-certified geriatric psychiatrists, clinical psychologists,
and Masters-level social workers. Individual as well as group
therapy interventions are employed. Where appropriate, clinical
interventions with older adults themselves are combined with work
with family members and other caregivers. Using this model, the
program has been successful in treating older persons who are
frail or physically ill, who have limited mobility, or who resist
viewing their problems as mental health issues.
Geriatric Outpatient Mental Health Services are available
Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 9:00 pm, and Fridays from
8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Please call 1-800-969-5300 for further information.
