Staff members from UMDNJ-University Behavioral HealthCare's Cop2Cop
spent three days last week providing critical incident crisis
intervention services on-site to more than 200 officers in the
New Orleans Police Department and also offered its confidential
telephone hotline to any New Orleans officer who may need assistance.
The Cop2Cop program, which was created five years ago with a grant
from the New Jersey Department of Personnel, provides peer and
clinical counseling services to New Jersey law enforcement officers.
Cherie Castellano, Program Director for Cop2Cop, was interviewed
for an article in The Star-Ledger, December 29, 2005, for her
work directing the Cop2Cop program and her outreach to law enforcement
members dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. More...

Paulette Hines, Ph.D. is the newly elected President
of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA), an international
organization comprised of the leading theorists, researchers,
trainers, and practitioners in the field of family and larger
systems.
Rena Gitlitz, clinician administrator, extended
care, presented at the statewide Supported Employment conference
hosted by the Integrated Employment Institute and Career Connections
of NJ. The efforts of UBHC to support pre-vocational programming
in our Partial Hospital programs was applauded by the Division
of Mental Health Services and conference attendees. Our Pre-Vocational
program serves as a model across the state.
The Supported Housing Program has been awarded
ten additional beds thorough a DMHS grant to provide Specialized
Services to Special Populations. These 10 beds are targeted to
serve the young adult population that is currently hospitalized
in Trenton Psychiatric State Hospital. Potential residents will
be offered clinical services through the South Brunswick Partial
Hospital (Horizons) program that has a specialized young adult
program in place.
Al Jekelis Ph.D, Director, Clinical Laboratory
at UBHC, presented at the National Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry
Association Conference on April 16, 2004 in Seattle. His talk
was: "Smart Testing: Smart Solutions for Improving Your
Return on Investment".
Dale Ofei-Ayisi, LCSW, Supervising Habilitation
Counselor, Extended Treatment/Geriatrics, and Coordinator, Community
Outreach and Liaison, COPSA Institute, UBHC, has been invited
to attend an awards banquet on June 23, 2004, honoring recipients
of the 2004 Johnson & Johnson/Rosalynn Carter Institute “Caregivers
Program” grants. As a board member of Caregiver Volunteers
of Central New Jersey (a Rosalynn Carter Institute-funded
program), Ms. Ofei-Ayisi will be among those individuals recognized
at this national event to be held at Johnson & Johnson headquarters,
New Brunswick, NJ.
