As a premiere academic and health sciences university, UMDNJ's
UBHC continues to expand its commitment to research, offering
cutting edge technologies and new treatment alternatives to
those who suffer from mental health or addictive disorders.
UBHC perpetuates the clinical research and training missions
of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)
while offering hope to those with serious and chronic illness
who have not responded to available treatment. Our successes
in this area have let to an enhanced quality of life for our
patient and their families.
Turning knowledge into Practice
The Behavioral Research and Training Institute of UBHC works
in partnership with the University and its academic partners
to create new and more effective treatment options. Working
with recognized research professionals from UMDNJ, the Institute's
multidisciplinary staff of researcher and trainers supports
initiatives that touch on all aspects of mental health. The
Institute is recognized for its ability to rapidly transfer
the knowledge it gains into applied practice through its professional
training components.
Information That Serves the Community
UBHC is engaged in community and school-based services and research
funded by a variety of public and private sources. The resulting
studies have enhanced our abilities to raise the quality of
life and care in the communities we serve. They include research
on violence in our society and the application of research technology
to addiction treatment, as well as a study of strategies for
improving access to (and the effectiveness of) treatment for
populations with special cultural and clinical needs.
What Else...
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is supporting a UBHC
study of innovative and time-limited treatments for depression.
Other NIH funded research includes the development and evaluation
of psychotherapeutic interventions for treating patients with
multiple, medically unexplained physical symptoms.
